THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION
Kerygma comes from the Greek: keryssein meaning “to proclaim” and keryx meaning “herald”
The Kerygma is "the message of salvation of the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ.” (USCCB, Living as Missionary Disciples, 11)
“The journey of evangelization has as its center the proclamation of Jesus Christ and an invitation to deeper missionary discipleship.” (USCCB, Living as Missionary Disciples, 1)
“The proclamation (kerygma) of the life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and of the Kingdom of God is at the core of evangelization.” (USCCB, Living as Missionary Disciples, 6)
“The first proclamation must ring out over and over: ‘Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.’” (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 164)
“So I ask you: Are you looking for empty thrills in life, or do you want to feel a power that can give you a lasting sense of life and fulfillment? Empty thrills or the power of grace? To find fulfillment, to gain new strength, there is a way. It is not a thing or an object, but a person, and he is alive. His name is Jesus Christ.” - Pope Francis (World Youth Day, Krakow, Poland)
